ABUD is an SME company based in Budapest, Hungary, a member of Paulinyi-Reith and Partners, one of the biggest Hungarian architectural studio, founded in 1987, counting 4000 projects as references. ABUD is specialized in consultancy and R&D in the field of sustainable building and urban design. Based on years of design and engineering expertise, ABUD provides sustainability consultancy for government and municipal stakeholders, architectural studios and engineers, contractors and operators, investors and developers from the conceptual planning phase to the realisation of a project, from the scale of a detached house to urban concepts, from building envelope to smart city strategies.

Contribution to tasks in the project:

  • Development of the plus energy neighbourhood design for the demonstration case in Continental Climate – with experience in building and neighborhood energy and comfort optimization through dynamic energy simulation.
  • Evaluation framework for plus energy buildings and neighbourhoods – with extensive knowledge
    of sustainability KPI systems both on building, neighbourhood (and city) level.
  • Policy mapping and analysis and development of a methodology for the measurement of multiple benefits of plus energy buildings and neighbourhoods – with extensive knowledge on Hungarian policy environment and with experience on urban scale strategy development or policy recommendations for the field of sustainable, smart urban developments.
  • Enhance user involvement and satisfaction – with experience on participatory design projects.

Team

András Reith

CEO

András holds an MSc. in ClimaDesign (TU München), and an MSc. and PhD in Architecture and Building Engineering (Budapest). As CEO of ABUD he has been actively working as an architect, urban planner, sustainability consultant, university lecturer and researcher for two decades. His fields of expertise are: IDP, ClimaDesign®, Net-Zero energy buildings and neighborhoods, nature-based and restorative design, city-scale energy modeling, building occupant behavior.

In Syn.ikia he oversees the ABUD tasks in all of the work packages from WP1 to WP7. He is also actively participating in the development of a demonstration case of plus energy multi-storey apartment building in Continental climate in WP2 and in the technology integration in smart managed plus energy buildings in WP3 .

Ábel Magyari

Consultant

Ábel holds an Msc. degree in Architecture (Budapest). As a consultant and project manager at ABUD, he works both on urban scale R&D projects and building certifications. His main research interests lie in urban scale energy modelling, plus energy neighborhoods, distributed infrastructures and energy communities. Before joining ABUD he managed building certification projects for big museum developments in Budapest.

Ábel is responsible for the management of the ABUD tasks in Syn.ikia. Besides the management duties, Ábel will also actively support the development of a demonstration case of plus energy multi-storey apartment building in Continental climate in WP2, the technology integration in smart managed plus energy buildings in WP3, and will provide contribution to support the creation of flexibility measures in different climate zones in WP4.

Viktor Bukovszki

Senior Consultant

As a consultant at ABUD, Viktor’s responsibility is to initiate, develop and coordinate R&D projects in the field of urban digitalization, social production of space and institutional technologies.

He studied in Hungary, the Netherlands, Denmark and Austria in the fields of architectural engineering, sustainable urban transformation, mobility and meta-architecture. Viktor has a research profile in science and technology studies, with a wide range of applications such as energy communities, nature-based solutions and smart cities.

At ABUD, he participated in projects such as the development of SmartCEPS data-driven urban planning platform or E-Co-Housing sustainable social housing project.

In Syn.ikia project he was responsible for developing the social sustainability KPIs.

Rebeka Dora Balazs

Consultant

With a multidisciplinary background in architecture, sociology and social anthropology,

Rebeka ensures the social sustainability of ABUD projects. As an R&D consultant and project coordinator, her daily work includes designing participatory processes, monitoring occupant behaviour, and stakeholder analysis and involvement. Before joining ABUD, Rebeka conducted a long-term, empirical research on participatory planning, aiming to decrease the gap between theory and practice in the field. She has also worked in construction coordination of a non-governmental social housing initiative.

In the Syn.ikia project she works on social impact assessment, like the collection and calculation of Social KPIs in WP3, and policy mapping and analysis in WP5.

Melinda Orova

Senior Consultant

As Senior Consultant at ABUD, Melinda is actively involved in R&D and energy efficient building design projects. She has an outstanding experience in the project management and demonstration site coordination of H2020 research projects. Her research addresses the comparison and evaluation of neighbourhood sustainability assessment systems, and KPI development. Melinda holds an Msc. Architect and Building Engineer degree (Budapest).

In Syn.ikia she will provide support for the evaluation framework development in WP3, as well as for policy mapping, analysis and development of methodology to measure multiple benefits of plus energy neighbourhoods in WP5.

Orsolya Birtalan

R&D Project Manager

MSc. Arch. & Build. Eng. (BME). Expert in energy efficient building design, mainly involved in R&D projects, managing and coordinating demonstration sites, development of KPI systems. In SmartCEPS project she was consortium leader, in StepUP project, she was involved in monitoring standards and regulations in the target countries as well as to update and adapt the methodology. In A2PBEER project her tasks were among others the identification of common retrofitting approaches for public buildings and districts, the elaboration of a systemic public building and district retrofitting methodology, and the integration of related technologies.

In Syn.ikia project she is responsible for the tasks related to project management in WP1, Innovation management in WP6 and she helps with the dissemination and stakeholder engagement in WP7.
